Southwest Coupon Clipper will be interviewed today by Joey K on the Midday Show on KSBJ 89.3 radio on how to help you SAVE MONEY at the grocery store at 12:00 p.m. CST!!!
Here are some of the helpful hints:
- Make yourself a Weekly menu or Grocery list by looking at the weekly grocery store sales ad FIRST (not vice versa) before you head out to the store. I usually do mine on Sunday night while I'm settling down for the evening and watching a tv show
- Make sure you download coupons directly to your loyalty card (see right hand of blog for list of coupon downloadable sites)
- Combine store sales and promos with coupon match ups. Check in with Southwest Coupon Clipper for these weekly.
For example, there is a drug store running an ad right now for laundry detergent (HE)- 2 for $8.99 or $4.50 each. Seems pretty good, right? Wrong! Last week there was another store that was having a special sale on this SAME detergent and with your loyalty card this same laundry detergent cost $2. In addition, they were doing a store promo for $5 off Mix-n-Match items. This laundry detergent was one of the items (-.50 off per item)! So now it only costs $1.50, but wait! Now add your .50 off 1 coupon from the Sunday paper which also doubles for another .50 off and the laundry detergent costs $1. Time to stockpile that item! - Stockpile non-perishable items when they are at rock bottom prices (laundry detergent, cleaners, shampoo, conditioner, mustard, mayo, ketchup, dog food, soap, deodorant, snack foods, diapers, soft drinks, bottled water, etc,...)
- Put match-up coupons that you are going to use from your sunday paper inserts, internet printables, home mailer, etc. in an envelope when you go to the store. This will save a lot of time when you check out so that you are not going to be digging around looking for them last minute.
- Have a mission "In and Out as Quickly and Cost Efficient as Possible!" Marketing is really pretty and can catch your eye, but move on and stay focused!!! It will be on sale another day and you will get it for much less when you use your coupon then!
- Myth: Store Brands are less expensive - Wrong! Brand items are a lot of times, if not most, less expensive than generic when you get them during sales/promos in combination with coupons. A lot of times even- FREE!!
- I ONLY CUT COUPONS WHEN I NEED THEM and I DO NOT throw away what I don't use. You will find that the Sunday newspaper has lots of coupons and coupons on items you use. The goal is to get you to use that coupon right then and there, but sometimes if you hold out, you will find that that particular item goes on sale and combined with a coupon you will get the rock bottom price.
- I file the inserts by the day they were in the Sunday paper (ex: 4/5 Smart Source (SS))in a file and then when I need them I go back to that file where the date and source is listed.
