When and What to Stockpile During the Year

To Stockpile or Not to Stockpile? That is the question.

So a lot of people ask me if I have a price book and keep track of what I buy and when I bought it so I know what the "rock bottom price" is to start "STOCKPILING" an item. My answer is "No, I do not have a price book." I know that is definitely not super couponing style, but I pretty much have an internal register of how much I'll pay for something and when I think it is a great deal.

If you saw the news video I did Here on KHOU, you will notice that I spent "A LOT" on groceries before I started couponing. The story was not just about using coupons though. It was about being a smarter shopper. There are so many savings you can snag just by being a bit more organized and paying attention to store sales, loadable coupon sites such as Cellfire and Shortcuts, coupon match ups, printable coupons, etc.. and yes, STOCKPILING!

My friend who started couponing around the same time with me just said the other day that she still thinks about how much money she use to spend at the grocery/retail stores and cringes at the thought of all the money she wasted!!

She and I are now both aware that grocery store sales are cyclical and that there are definitely certain times of the year that some things are priced lower. What does that mean? It means that it's time to STOCKPILE!

Like I said, I have an internal mental register of what I think is a good price to buy an item, but a friend of mine emailed me this list she saw and when she thinks the best times are to stockpile.
  • January - Party items, sodas, chips, diet items and paper plates
  • March - Cleaning supplies and frozen food
  • May - Mexican food and Mexican condiments
  • June/July - Condiments (mayo, mustard, ketchup, bbq sauce, marinade), marinades, napkins, paper plates, plastic cups, popsicles, ice cream and frozen treats
  • August -Back to school supplies
  • Oct - Dec - Baking supplies, flour, sugar, chocolate, shortening, Holiday items and treats (candy, ham, turkey, pie, etc..)
What do you think of her list and what do you think is a great item to stockpile and when?

Target Quick Trip and Deals 10/18

Okay so the airwick deal has been going on for awhile. I really would not have a reason to buy these because I am not a sensor fan of sprays. I then decided it might be a great solution in my son's bathroom by his dirty laundry. I have had these coupons in my car console for about 2 weeks and just have not had any reason to run by walmart to get them for FREE. I did run by Target today though and decided to pick some up since they were on rollback from $13.99 to $5.99.

Randall's Quick Trip and Last Joint Juice Run

Spent $0.69 after Catalinas
Plus received $4.33 for price right guarantee
Saved $40.97

My son and daughter begged me yesterday to get them some pumpkin pie and orange juice and I just ran out of time so today I had to make a trip to Randall's to make good and of course they were OUT OF PUMPKIN PIES! Can you believe? Out of pumpkin pie in October. Finally an employee found the LAST one in the back!! Didn't realize pumpkin pies were so popular or that my children loved it so much.

My joint juice catalinas were expiring on the 16th so I decided to do my last jj transaction since the $5 of 7 catalina is no longer printing. A heads up though - joint juice is on sale for $1.00/each so if you buy 7, your final cost will be $7.00, but you will earn a $10.00 catalina (through the 18th).

7 Joint Juice - $1.00/each
-$5 off 7 catalina
Final Cost = FREE plus earned a $10 oyno catalina

2 Tropicana Juice - $2.99 each
-$1.00/2 peelie
Final Cost = $4.98 or $2.49/each
(2) O Organic Milk - $4.99/each

Cool Whip - $1.49
Pumpkin Pie - $3.99
London Broil - $6.18 was on sale with loyalty card and also (30% off) , but it did not ring up at the sales price(I realized this after I got home so next time I am at Randall's I will show them the mistake and their policy is to refund for the full amount paid for charging incorrectly.)
Bananas - .62

-$10 Catalina from transaction 1
Final Transaction Cost = $0.29

Joint Juice Deal with Sale = Money Maker

UPDATE: Did this deal yesterday (posting later) and yes, they rang up $1.00/each. Did this deal this morning (to get my price right guarantee on some meat I bought that rang up incorrectly) and they rang up for $1.39.

Bummer, but Total with tax = $10.07 and earned a $10.00 oyno catalina. So if you like joint juice (hate the name) like my kids do then you still get 7 joint juices for FREE after catalina.

Original Post:

Randall's has had such a great deal HERE going on with joint juice. Unfortunately, the $5 off 7 catalina is no longer printing out.

Here's the good news!

Right now at Randall's joint juice is on sale for $1.00/each. From now until Oct. 18th wyb 7 joint juice you will receive a $10 oyno catalina. So.......

Buy 7 joint juice - $1.00/each
Final Cost = $7.00 but earn a $10.00 oyno catalina
Final Cost after catalina = $3.00 money maker !!!!

Looks like I'll be shopping at Randall's again this week!

There is a new CVS coupon available. Click here and then goto page 31. Expires 11/7/09. I'm not sure how the cashier is going to feel about this coupon. I'm sure each cashier will differ. CVS Suggestion Scenario to Help you Get $5 off $25

Saved $43.33
This is an example of how you can get to your $5 off $25 coupon total with some easy add ins. My daughter pleaded with me to buy her some Apple Jacks. After I saw the Neosporin lip deal at commonsense, I thought what a great way to use the $5/$25 CVS coupon you can get HERE and have $10.78 worth of free products to get you closer to your $25 total. But it gets even better.
When you go into CVS scan your CVS card at the Coupon Center machine. Sometimes it will print out $2 off 2 Gold Emblem Nuts and $2 of $10 worth of CVS products. It did today!
So
2 Gold Emblem Nuts -.99/each
- $2 CVS CRT
Final Cost = FREE plus .02 overage
For the CVS products I found TONS of CVS product in the 75% clearance section (battery adapters, anti aging cream, wipes, etc.)
5 CVS Aftersun wipes - $2.39 on sale .59/each
-$2 off $10 worth of CVS products (it goes off the original price - $11.95 total)
Final Cost = $0.95, but $2.95 to get me closer to $5 off $25
It's a lot easier to reach that $25 mark if you combine the CVS sales with manufacturer & store coupons and really start saving!
Let me know how you used your $5 off $25 coupon and what deals you found!

Randall's Summary Money Maker on SC Johnson, Joint Juice & Kleenex Deals

$17.29 PROFIT
After Rebates and Catalina
(Starbucks and 1 Hersheys bar missing from picture)

Okay, so here is the Summary of how 3 Randall's transactions in combination with coupons, in-store sales, manufacturer deals and rebates can become HUGE SAVINGS!!!! All three deals are broken down HERE, HERE and HERE.
Let me know how you did in the comment section or email me at swcouponclipper@att.net!
UPDATE: A couple of readers have left comments that they did not receive the $10 catalina and were told that the promo was over. The cashier or service rep is INCORRECT. I did the deal this morning around 9:30 and again at 2:20 (I will post later). It lasts thru the 18th. If you do not receive the $10 catalina WHEN YOU BUY 7 or 8, go to customer service and have them do a dummy sale where they scan your randall's card and purchase the 7 joint juice and it should print out the $5 off 7 coupon catalina and the $10 catalina once the transaction is COMPLETE. I've done the deal now numerous times and did have once where the catalinas did not print out. I went over to customer service and she told me that 1. the deal must be over and 2. it is because I used a catalina to pay for it. (funny since I had already done the deal 2 times) I asked her to please do a dummy sale on a different register. She did and what do you know...the catalinas printed out. I did the deal at least 5 times after that and like I said did 2 more today.
Here is the joint juice catalina deal:

Between 9/21 & 10/18
Buy 3-4 Joint Juice Fitness Water & get $3.00 catalina on your next purchase.
Buy 5-6 & get $5.00 catalina
Buy 7 or more and get $10.00 catalina

Hope this helps and sorry for those of you who did not receive the catalina on your purchase. Hiccups do happen sometimes, but can be easily fixed.
